Anglophone North School District recently presented the Celebrate the Spirit Awards to four recipients at the Parent School Support Committee (PSSC) Appreciation Dinner held in Bathurst. The award is given to recognize groups or individuals who have contributed “above and beyond” to our district and, by virtue of their mere presence in our schools, have enhanced the positive and enthusiastic culture the makes ASD-N a great place to educate children.

Four ASD-N students were recognized for their sportsmanship in high school sports by the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association at 10th Annual Sportsmanship Awards Banquet which was held Wednesday, May 13th, 2015 at St. Thomas University in Fredericton. The students who received the Raymond Légère Sportsmanship Award are Larissa Bryenton of Blackville School, Andrea Dinan of James M. Hill High School, Michael MacKay of Miramichi Valley High School and James Lee of Bonar Law Memorial School.

Congratulations to Josanna Hickey of Bathurst High School. She recently was named as one of 16 students from across Canada to win a Beaverbrook Vimy Prize. Josanna will spend two weeks in August visiting the Vimy Ridge Memorial and other historic sites in Europe sharing the experience with 15 other young Canadians.  This scholarship aims to “educate and inspire students through the historic Battle of Vimy Ridge, where Canada came of age and was then recognized on the world stage”. The ASD-N Regional Drama Festival was held at James M. Hill High School on Tuesday May 12th.  Three plays were presented in the morning. "Robin Hood" was performed by Nelson Rural School. "The Wonders of Storybook Land" was performed by Napan Elementary School.  "The Little Mermaid" was performed by Gretna Green Elementary School. After lunch workshops were held for the young actors, conducted by the Theatre Arts students of James. M. Hill. These sessions covered choreography, make-up, acting skills, set design and performance warm-up

The launch of the Go for 42 Initiative was held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Harkins Elementary with students, staff, parents and community members in attendance. This Kindergarten to Grade 8 initiative is led by MANGO and will take place in local Miramichi area schools from May 11th until June 12th. Students will attempt to accumulate 40 kms of running/walking during that time. They will receive colorful shoe tags to mark their progress. On Sunday June 28th at 11:00 am students are encouraged to participate in the Mango Kids Fun Run which will complete the last 2.2 kms.

Twenty-five students from the south region of ASD-N were recognized at a dinner in their honour at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel on Thursday May 7th. The students were presented with Turnaround Achievement Awards in recognition of their developing attitudes and approaches towards academics and school life in general. The dinner, sponsored by the Chatham Rotary Club with support from Beaubear Credit Union, was well attended with family and school staff present to recognize the accomplishment of each of the recipients.

Four  schools in the northern region of Anglophone North School District, along with the Bathurst Education Centre,  recently completed a very successful clothing drive in partnership with the New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL).
