Generous support for the music programs in ASD-N schools was received from the Miramichi radio station 95.9 Sun FM. The presentation of a cheque for $5000 was made to ASD-N superintendent Beth Stymiest and music teachers Candace Curtis and Chantal MacDonald this past Wednesday at the District Office. Shown in the above photo, left to right are Mrs. Stymiest, Ms Curtis, Ms, MacDonald,  and representing 95.9 Sun FM are general manager Dan Gallant, program director Mel Sampson and news director Darcy McLaughlin.

Once again, for the 12th year running,  the Miramichi Council of the BellAliant Pioneers have made a generous donation of school supplies to students in the Miramichi, Harcourt and Rexton areas of Anglophone North School District through their “Backpacks for Kids” program. Along with BellAliant and partner Staples-Miramichi and their customers, 140 book bags stuffed with classroom materials have been prepared for children in elementary school and were delivered to district representatives this past Monday. The 8th annual “Salt of the Earth Artisan and Craft Exposition” was held on July the 27th on La Promenade, Bathurst, supported by Anglophone North School District  and The City of Bathurst.  Artisans and vendors from both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick participated in the event with proceeds going towards “The Spirit of Christmas” campaign for impoverished seniors and the  “Grandmothers of Lesotho, Africa” project.  Included also was a draw for a $500.00 gas card, won by artisan Liz Daley, mother of Carla Roy, an employee with the school district.   Organizers expressed thanks

An ASD-N educator, Ms Heather Smith, has been elected President-designate of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF), an organization representing approximately 200 000 teachers across Canada.  Ms Smith is principal of Janeville Elementary School, has taught for 32 years and is a Past-president of the New Brunswick Teachers’ Association. Her proud colleagues in ASD-N wish her well as she starts her 2 year term in 2015.

On Sunday June 22, the annual Mango Go for 42 Challenge had its wrap up event on the streets of Miramichi West. Three hundred and eighty-six area elementary school students travelled 2.2 kilometers on foot completing a total of 42.2 kilometers, accumulated over the last month - completing a Marathon. The event was held in conjunction with the annual Rock 'n Run road race and was supported by MANGO and ASD-N and involved elementary schools in the Miramichi area. On Monday, June 16, 2014 babies who participated this year in the Roots of Empathy program were honored at the Beaverbrook Kincenter. Twenty three of the “World’s Youngest Teachers” went into 24 classes  in the  Anglophone North School District as well as Legaceville,  Baie Ste Anne, Eel Ground, Esgenoopetitj and Elsipogotg. The babies and their parents along with school and community supporters of the program gathered to celebrate another successful year.
