finding a summer job Services Canada can help. There will be a presentation on SC’s
programs and services for youth, Tuesday May 13 at 7:00pm at the
Newcastle Library, Miramichi. See the attachment below for details.
On April 25th, students at
Lord Beaverbrook School (LBS) in Campbellton participated in HOP for muscular
dystrophy (MD). To help raise awareness about the musculoskeletal
disease students kindergarten to grade 4, hopped, danced, jumped and moved
around the school gym. During the event, students were excited to have their
faces painted by parents volunteers and enjoyed a healthy snack provided by
their community partner Atlantic Superstore. Fundraising efforts by
students and their families generated over $1800 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
The New Brunswick French
Second Language Oratory competitions, Concours D’Art Oratoire 2014, sponsored
by Canadian Parents for French - NewBrunswick, were held in Moncton on Sunday
May 4th at the Université de Moncton. Three ASD-N Students place 1st in 3 of
the 16 categories and seven other district students were recognized for second
and third place finishes. The three first place

A grade three
French Immersion student at Croft Elementary School has received national
recognition from the Canadian Legion. Madalyn Waye-Sobey’s entry in the Primary
Level black and white poster category received Honorable Mention distinction in
the most recent Remembrance Day Poster and Literary Contest. This is effectively
third place amongst all the entries from across Canada. A presentation was made
to Madalyn by the Newcastle Legion president Gerald Mullins at an assembly at
her school on Wednesday April 30th. This is only the third time that
More than fifty projects were presented by ASD-N Middle School students at the annual ASD-N Heritage Fair held at the Education Centre in Bathurst on Tuesday April 29th. Over recent months a wide variety of topics had been researched and relevant colourful and creative presentations mounted on display boards. Speeches were rehearsed and questions anticipated. During the morning of the fair a dozen judges spent two hours visiting various projects, listening to the young historians about their interest, asking questions and viewing the display boards. They came away duly impressed.
This Friday and Saturday, April 25th and 26th, Tide Head School will be receiving any used clothing that members of the
community might come across as they “spring clean” and no longer need. This project is part of a broader effort across
ASD-N. The school will be passing these
donations on to the New Brunswick Association for Community Living as part of latter’s
fund raising efforts. Tide Head School will in turn receive a portion of the
funds which will be spent on literacy initiatives. If you are interested bagged
The ASD-N Regional Heritage Fair will be held in Bathurst on
Tuesday April 29th. Students from a number of district middle
schools will exhibit their work and be available to discuss their interest in
their heritage with judges and members
of the public. The event taking place at the Bathurst Education Centre at 155
Munro Street will be open for public viewing at 12:00 noon following the
judging and conclude with the awards presentation a starting at 1:00 p.m. More
