On Wednesday February 5th seven Brazilian students had one of their last opportunities to enjoy the Canadian winter, cross-country skiing at the Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club.  The students who have been attending James M. Hill High School since September, are returning home Saturday. In spite of the moderately cold conditions and the “slippery” snow, they made a very impressive effort to get comfortable skiing the wooded trails, picking themselves up and brushing themselves off whenever they lost their balance. Tips for Keeping Snacks Safe:Always wash hands before preparing or eating a snack. This is the one of best ways to prevent food spoilage and contamination. Wash all fruits and veggies under cold running water. Clean all lunch boxes, thermal bags, plastic utensils and containers in hot soapy water. DO NOT re-use plastic wrapping and bags.Keep foods cold -Yogurt, deli meats and cheese should be kept cold. -Be sure to keep lunches in the fridge until the morning and include an ice pack or frozen juice pack when sending lunches to school.

The Campbellton  Jr. A Tigers ice hockey team have recently been working with Tide Head Elementary School offering after school sports sessions to the students. The Tigers with the lead of their coach, Tory Ryan, help students focus on basic skills and offer a variety of sport experiences some of which the children  have had no opportunity previously to experience.  To learn more about the project visit Campbellton Tigers .

Eleanor W. Graham Middle School of Rexton is off to a tremendous start towards creating a multi-sensory room for its Methods and Resource teachers for their work with students with special educational needs. The Cartier Co-op, located in Richiboucto, has donated $5 000, a big first step in the school’s efforts to raise the $14 000 needed. The creation of such a room will go a long way towards meeting the special needs of children, such as  those with autism, in the wider Rexton, Richibouto and Elsipogtog area.
