Pink
Shirt Day across Canada is Wednesday February 26th. Pink Shirt Day originated
in Nova Scotia when two students organized the day to protest against bullying
in their school. They distributed pink shirts to all of the boys to wear in
empathy with a boy who was being bullied. The day has grown over the years and
now we are all asked to wear pink on this day to help stop bullying. A number
of schools in ASD-N are marking this day, on or about Feb. 26th. On-going
anti-bullying campaigns are conducted throughout the school year in many

Jacquet River School completed its first session of the ELF Program. Four children participated and their teachers were very pleased with their progress. A second
session of the program is being planned following March break. The program
organizers felt very fortunate to find volunteers through a partnership with
the New Brunswick Community College in Belledune. Four students attending the local
campus were able to come and volunteer as part of their day. Many thanks to Tracy Culligan, coordinator of

School in Rexton are taking part in a week-long student cultural exchange with
students in Victoria, British Columbia.
Prior to last Friday’s snow storm the group did some scrambling to get
to Moncton ahead of the bad weather and where fortunate their flight was
scheduled before Sunday’s "double header". While
in Victoria they will have the opportunity to share in the culture and history
of Vancouver Island. In April, the BLMS students will be able to share their

Ever dream of having your own personal library? On Tuesday January 28th, students at Lord Beaverbrook School (LBS) in Campbellton participated in the “Love of Reading” program for the fifth consecutive year. This literacy program is an ongoing project that provides students at LBS with a total of four books to take home over the school year.
Anglophone North School District will be providing opportunities this spring for students at all grade levels to display and share their work and interests in science, math engineering and technology. For students in elementary school there will be a STEM Fair from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Gretna Green Elementary School in Miramichi on Thursday March 20th. This non-competitive showcase promotes “hands-on learning” in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Akarsh Pai, a Grade 12 student and the vice-president of the Student Council at Sugarloaf Senior High, has been chosen by the Canadian Gene Cure Foundation (CGCF) to participate in their “Gene Researcher for a Week” program. This national program runs annually during or near the March Break. Forty to fifty students from across Canada, interested in the genetics field, are selected from a pool of hundreds of applicants recommended by their school to spend a week in a genetics laboratory paired with a senior researcher.
