The ASD-N French Oratory Competition was  held at Jacquet River School on April 16th. Attached below is a list of  the results for various categories. The first and second place winners are invited to attend the provincial competition in Moncton on Sunday, May 4th. North and South Esk Regional High School held its 3rd annual mini-Powwow on Tuesday April 15th as part of the school’s cultural awareness program. The highly colourful and energetic display of many Mi'kmaq traditions and its culture was enthusiastically received by the student audience. Drummers and dancers from New Brunswick and Quebec exhibited the beauty and strength of their community through song, dance and ceremony.  Skills Canada NB hosted the annual Provincial  Trades Skills competitions in Miramichi on Saturday April 12. Eighty-six students from 26 New Brunswick High Schools competed in 11 events held at Miramichi Valley High School and James M. Hill High. The winners in each category will represent New Brunswick in the Skills Canada National Competitions in Toronto June 4th  to 7th. Pupils from nine ASD-N elementary schools from Janeville to Blackville, participated in the district S.T.E.M. Fair held at Gretna Green Elementary School in Miramichi on April 10. A total of fifty-one projects were presented to judges and the general public by the almost 100 participants. The judges were there to hear the pupils explain their work, their interests, and to discuss their ideas and results. This was not a competitive event, rather one where the exhibitors had a chance to display and share their findings with others. For photos from the event visit ASD-N

The ASD-N Northern Area Science Fair for middle and high school students was held Tuesday April 1 at Jacquet River School.  Six middle school projects were selected to advance to the River Valley Regional Science Fair being held at the University of New Brunswick on April 6th, two from each of Campbellton and Dalhousie middle schools and Jacquet River School. Two entries from Bathurst High were selected from the high school division. The Anglophone North School District Science Fair was held April 3rd at James M Hill High School. Fifty entries by middle and high school students were reviewed by the panel of judges, a process that involved viewing a display and interviewing the participants about their project, what brought about their interest in it, their experimental methodology and where their continuing interest might lead them. A list of the projects the judges felt were the top three as well as those worthy of honourable mention are listed in the attachment below. These projects are eligible to advance to the River

The  ASD-N Miramichi/Rexton area Chess Tournament took place on Saturday, March 15th.  “Rexton Elementary once again did an amazing job hosting the tournament” stated event co-ordinator Jacqueline Petrie.  Seventeen students from grade 1 to grade 8 participated and are eligible to represent ASD-N at the provincial chess tournament in Quispamsis on April 12th.  Results are attached below.
