The New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is developing a standard province-wide report card for grades k to 8 and is keen to have parental consultations. The ASD-N Northern Area Science Fair for middle and high school students was held Tuesday April 1 at Jacquet River School.  Six middle school projects were selected to advance to the River Valley Regional Science Fair being held at the University of New Brunswick on April 6th, two from each of Campbellton and Dalhousie middle schools and Jacquet River School. Two entries from Bathurst High were selected from the high school division. The Anglophone North School District Science Fair was held April 3rd at James M Hill High School. Fifty entries by middle and high school students were reviewed by the panel of judges, a process that involved viewing a display and interviewing the participants about their project, what brought about their interest in it, their experimental methodology and where their continuing interest might lead them. A list of the projects the judges felt were the top three as well as those worthy of honourable mention are listed in the attachment below. These projects are eligible to advance to the River

The  ASD-N Miramichi/Rexton area Chess Tournament took place on Saturday, March 15th.  “Rexton Elementary once again did an amazing job hosting the tournament” stated event co-ordinator Jacqueline Petrie.  Seventeen students from grade 1 to grade 8 participated and are eligible to represent ASD-N at the provincial chess tournament in Quispamsis on April 12th.  Results are attached below. The Skills Canada High School Provincial Competitions are set to take place in Miramichi on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Some events will be held at James M. Hill High School while others will be presented at Miramichi Valley High School. All participants will end the day at the James M. Hill auditorium for the medal presentations and announcement of the secondary participants who will be invited to participate with Team NB in Toronto, Ontario for the 20th Skills Canada National Competition. Feeling both proud and sad, staff and students at North and South Esk Elementary School in Sunny Corner recently unveiled the Mike Buggie Leadership Award. This award will to be presented yearly to a grade 6 student  has exemplified leadership amongst his or her peers, has made a positive contribution to the school and community, is in good academic and social standing, and has gone above and beyond the call of duty.
