Once again, for the 13th year running,  the Miramichi Council of the BellAliant Pioneers and Staples in Miramichi have made a generous donation of school supplies to students in the Miramichi, Harcourt and Rexton areas of Anglophone North School District through their “Backpacks for Kids” program. Along with BellAliant and partner Staples-Miramichi and their customers, 170 book bags stuffed with classroom materials have been prepared for children in elementary school and were delivered to district representatives this past Tuesday.

The 2015 "Go for 42" Fun Run was held on Sunday, June 28th with elementary schools in the Miramichi area participating. Gretna Green Elementary had the largest proportion of participants, followed by St. Andrews and Croft Elementary, Carrefour Beausoleil. To see photos from the even visit Go for 42 2015 .

A sod turning ceremony was held June 15th at Gretna Green Elementary School, Miramichi to mark upgrades and renovations to the school that are to begin this summer. The almost $10 000 000 project to add teaching stations, a new gym, administrative areas and other improvements will span 3 years to minimize disruptions to the school’s operation. Monday, June 8th, Harkins Middle School presented a Chinese Cultural Exposition. Students the grade 6 Blue Team, headed by Mrs. Blakley-Doucette, as well as Ms. Beers’ social studies students from 8E1, 8E2, 8L1, and 8L2, presented projects created with the help of Ms. Zhang  Xiaoyu. The Miramichi Track and Field Club will be hosting an event for children, aged 8-13, on Monday, June 22nd at the JMH track, from 6-7pm.  It's the Run, Jump, Throw (RJT) Regional meet (which is replacing the former Hershey meet).  It is open to anyone, free for those who participated in the RJT 12 Challenges, and $5 for all others. From this meet, the top 8 in each event will qualify to go to the provincial RJT meet, on July 11th in Moncton, and from there, may be selected to be on Team NB for the Atlantic RJT series.

The students of Croft Elementary School joined a number of dignitaries to officially “turn the sod”, to begin construction of the new K to 8 school in Miramichi West. All of the students present will be attending the school scheduled to open in the fall of 2017and there was a considerable excitement on display. The kindergarten students, anxious for the completion of the new facility, even showed up willing to lend a hand, hard hats and all! The crowd on hand heard comments regarding the significance of the project and what it will mean for the future of Miramichi from the dignitaries
