Enterprise Greater Moncton recently awarded several ASD-N student projects recognition and support for their entrepreneurship endeavors. The Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge (YEC) was held May 15th in Moncton. Awarded first place in the Innovative Idea category was Nikki Renae Arsenault of Sugarloaf Senior High School (SSHS) for her project Butter Balm. Nikki received $3000.00 and mentorship.
What to drink when exercising?
Water? Sport drinks? Electrolyte gels? Energy drinks? The choices you
have in store are endless but which one are really worth it?
Water is always a good
choice. Water contains no calorie, no sugar, no additive, etc. Your body always
needs water, even when you are not exercising. To be more environmental
friendly, use a refillable water bottle.
Sport drinks like Gatorade or
PowerAde are a mix of water, sugar, flavor and electrolytes (Sodium and
Potassium). They might be useful but only in specific situation: when you
One hundred and twelve ASD-N students were among the more than 1200 grades 7, 8 and 9 students from across the province who recently participated in the annual New Brunswick Math Competition. Held at 5 locations throughout the province, young mathematicians from 160 schools accepted the challenge presented by the Department of Mathematics & Statistics of the University of New Brunswick and the Faculty of Science and the School of Engineering of the Université de Moncton with the sponsorship of the New Brunswick Department of Education, on Friday May 9th.
Adventures In Miramichi (AIM) is
offering two camps in July. The Day Camp is for students 10 to 15 years old and is
being held from July 14th to 18th . Visit Adventure Camp.
There will be a Leadership Camp from July 6th to 11th for
students 15 to 17 years old. Visit Leadership

The New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletics Association (NBIAA) recently presented four ASD-N students with the Raymond Légère Sportsmanship Award. These students were recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship throughout the school year while participating in NBIAA sports: Zachery Parker of Sugarloaf Senior High School in Campbellton, Sydney MacDonald and Jonah McGrath of Miramichi Valley High School and Brodie Theriault of Bonar Law Memorial School in Rexton.
How
good is physical activity for you? Did you know that by
increasing your physical activity you can greatly reduce your chances of
getting sick? You will also be happier
and healthier! Some benefits of being physically active
includes better health, improved fitness, better posture and balance, better
self-esteem, stronger muscles and bones, feeling less stressed and more
relaxed, increased concentration/ better academic score, etc. In other words,
it helps you feel good! Physical activity also helps decrease the
risk of having heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes,
Sugarloaf Senior High School hosted RCMP Police Week on May 14th and 15th. Police Week began in Canada in 1970 as a way to connect with communities and increase awareness about the services that police provide. Sugarloaf was extremely lucky to be selected as a host to the RCMP Helicopter on May 14th. This helicopter serves the 4 Atlantic Provinces and the students and staff were applauding as the pilots had a meet and greet with the students and staff.
On Tuesday May 6th
nine Anglophone North School District students in the Campbellton and Dalhousie
area were recognized for their academic accomplishments by being presented with
the Turnaround Achievement Award for
2014. The Awards Dinner was held at the Campbellton Civic Centre. To see photos

Similar ceremonies for schools in other parts of ASD-N will be held later in
May.
Anglophone North School District recently recognized community support for education with the Celebrate the Spirit Award. This award, first started in the former School District 15, selects one or more individuals from the community to be recognized and honoured for their contribution to education. Recipients, who by virtue of their mere presence in our schools, enhance the positive and enthusiastic culture that makes Anglophone North School District a great place in which to educate children.
