Campbellton Middle School (CMS) recently held a Girls
Circle™ program for girls in grade 5 and 6. The program provided a safe space
where girls could express themselves and participate in thought-provoking
activities related to friendships, anti-bullying, self-esteem, self-awareness
and girls’ solidarity.
At CMS, the girls worked on gaining
a greater understanding of themselves, as well as accepting all parts of
themselves as unique and special. They also learned about accepting others,
offering compassion, and the importance of not judging others. The participants
Students from the Lord Beaverbrook School and Tide Head School recently gathered together to enjoy a morning of outdoor activities at Rotary Field in Campbellton. This community schools event included over 230 students, teachers, administrators, parent volunteers, as well as students volunteers from Sugarloaf Senior High School. Mr.
AIM Summer Adventure Camps offer a variety of programming throughout the week. Participants are encouraged to stretch outside of their comfort zone and experience personal growth through such activities as paddling, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, archery, etc. Because of the wide variety of activities in this outdoor education program, the result is an enriching experience for everyone.
The “Worlds Youngest Teachers” were honored on Monday, June 10th at the annual Baby Celebration for Roots of Empathy program. The Beaverbrook Kincenter was the place to be when the babies who participated in the program in the Anglophone North School District in 2011-2013 gathered along with their parents and various community supporters. Community support for this program has enabled programs to be held in the district since 2005.
Lord Beaverbrook School teacher Mrs. Sandra Crowley has been recognized with the Bell Aliant Award for Excellence in Teaching by the New Brunswick Teachers’ Association. This award is made to a member of the association who is recognized by their peers and the community for their outstanding contribution to their students and to the teaching profession. Four Sugarloaf Senior High School students were recently recognized for entrepreneurial initiatives in the provincial Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge organized by Enterprise Greater Moncton. Winning first prize were Conrad Bernard, Brandon Goodfellow and Trevor Price for their project to detect when a hockey puck completely crosses a goal line. The award was accompanied with a $3 000.00 prize. Jonathan Boudreau, won third place and $1 000.00 for his innovation of combining chewing gum with a throat lozenge ingredients for relief of a sore throat.
Keeping yourself safe while being active. Here are some great safety tips for when you being physically active. 1. Wear proper footwear like sneakers when running or playing sports2. If you are going to be outdoors, remember to apply sunscreen to prevent sunburn3. Bring a water bottle to keep hydrated and prevent overheating4. If you are biking, rollerblading, skateboarding, etc., be sure to wear your helmet. This is the final week of the Go for 42 Challenge. Be active and strive to accumulate 40 kms.
ASD-N schools in the Bathurst area held the annual ChariTea at Terry Fox Elementary School on Saturday June 1st. This event is part of an ongoing effort in support of the African country of Lesotho. Two hundred girls in grades 6 to 9 were able to enjoy the Go Girl Festival at Miramichi Valley High School on Wednesday May 29th. The participants from schools in the southern area of ASD-N as well as three First Nation schools, enjoyed a wide variety of activities provided by teachers and community volunteers, most of which took place outdoors under pleasantly warm late spring sunshine.
