Croft Elementary Home & School, along with the Croft Drama Club, will present their second annual "Spooktacular" on October 28th and 29th in their Forest Classroom. The rain date for the event is October 30th. For more information, you can visit the Croft website, while there, check out the promotional video - IF YOU DARE! The Atlantic Association of Registrars and Admissions Officers from post-secondary institutions recently held a series of Career Expos for District 16 students which included an evening session at Miramichi Valley High School on Wednesday October 12th .  The after-supper session allowed  parents and guardians to accompany their children to visit 46 booths in order to consider the many post-secondary education options available in Atlantic Canada.

 A new initiative in the area of Adventure Based education brings together 12 grade 8 students from across the district to be members of the District 16 Lemur Team. One individual from each of the district schools with students in grade 8 has been selected for the program.

Recently District 16 recognized 3 teachers who have completed the district's two year Leadership Development Program. The certificates were presented at a ceremony at the Rodd Miramichi River Inn, presided over by District 16 Director of Education Mr. Andrew Clark on Wednesday September 28th. This year’s recipients were Ms Rose Corney, Ms Heidi Ryder and Ms Theresa MacKnight.

An assembly of the students at Miramichi Valley High School recently welcomed the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay team to their school. The group is on a cross-Canada relay-tour to commemorate the accomplishments of the “Man in Motion” 25 years ago. Hansen, a paraplegic, brought national and world-wide attention to the needs of people who suffer from spinal cord injuries.  As part of the afternoon’s program, a ribbon cutting ceremony by Miramichi City Mayor Gerry Cormier marked the official opening of the new accessibility doors installed in the gymnasium wing of the school.

School District 16 held its second elementary school cross country meet of the season on Wednesday Sept. 21 at Gretna Green School. The well attended event saw hundreds of runners from grades 3 to 5 compete over a grassy one kilometer course. The weather could not have been more favourable.  Leadership from District 16 educators with very keen support from parents seemed very much appreciated by the enthusiastic young participants. There are three more meets to be held on successive Wednesdays at Blackville School, Saint Andrew’s School and French Fort Cove, all starting at 4:00 pm.

Earlier this month BellAliant Pioneer Volunteers made a generous donation to students of District 16. To mark the organization's 100th anniversary, one hundred dictionaries for grades three and four were presented to District 16 superintendent Mr. Laurie Keoughan by Debbie Whitney, President of the Miramichi Pioneers and Lois Oldfield, a Pioneer volunteer. In addition, six back packs stuffed with $50.00 worth of school supplies were given to Mr. Keoughan to be passed on to those in need.

The Miramichi Wellness Network launched the 2011-2012 wellness marketing campaign, Join the Wellness Movement at the High Elements Challenge Course at MVHS on Monday, September 12, 2011.  Miramichi In Motion community champion, Dr. Mike Dickinson dropped the first beach ball into the 7 foot high Ball Unit suspended up-side down from High Elements course. Many local dignitaries and community partners were on hand for the launch and to encourage Dr. Dickinson.
