District 16 students hosted 10 visiting Chinese students for a week in January in a program called Winter Camp. These students chose to visit Canada for a chance to improve their ability to speak English and explore opportunities to eventually further their education in this country. The 10 students visiting locally were part of a larger group of students visiting New Brunswick, all of whom stayed with host families for this portion of their visit. They were in Canada for a total of 20 days.
Several elementary schools of the District 16 have made plans to participate in cross country skiing again this winter. Excursions to visit the Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club in Nelson-Miramichi are being made by many of the nearby schools.
Equipment has been made available by partnerships between the ski club and schools with the financial support of the New Brunswick Department of Culture, Heritage and Sport and Sport Canada.
