Four Sugarloaf Senior High School students were recently recognized for entrepreneurial initiatives in the provincial Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge organized by Enterprise Greater Moncton. Winning first prize were Conrad Bernard, Brandon Goodfellow and Trevor Price for their project to detect when a hockey puck completely crosses a goal line. The award was accompanied with a $3 000.00 prize. Jonathan Boudreau, won third place and $1 000.00 for his innovation of combining chewing gum with a throat lozenge ingredients for relief of a sore throat.
Keeping yourself safe while being active. Here are some great safety tips for when you being physically active. 1. Wear proper footwear like sneakers when running or playing sports2. If you are going to be outdoors, remember to apply sunscreen to prevent sunburn3. Bring a water bottle to keep hydrated and prevent overheating4. ASD-N schools in the Bathurst area held the annual ChariTea at Terry Fox Elementary School on Saturday June 1st. This event is part of an ongoing effort in support of the African country of Lesotho. Two hundred girls in grades 6 to 9 were able to enjoy the Go Girl Festival at Miramichi Valley High School on Wednesday May 29th. The participants from schools in the southern area of ASD-N as well as three First Nation schools, enjoyed a wide variety of activities provided by teachers and community volunteers, most of which took place outdoors under pleasantly warm late spring sunshine.
Preparing for
physical activity is important! Did you know that it is important to
warm up your body before any physical activity? Warming up prepares your body
physically and mentally for exercising, and also helps prevent injuries. If you
are going for a run, you can warm up with some light jogging followed by some
stretching. So lace up your sneakers, “warm up”, get a friend and go for a run.

The Cool History
Kids, a group of Grade 4 and 5 students at Gretna Green Elementary School, have
recently completed a short film called "The Great Miramichi
Fire". The film is modelled on the popular Heritage Minutes, seen on television, and is intended
to teach about this tragic and significant event in Miramichi's history.
The film is part of an ongoing enrichment project at the school and was completed

splendid dinner at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel was enjoyed by twenty-six
area students at the Turnaround Achievement Awards ceremony on Monday May 27th.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Chatham with support from Beaubear Credit Union,
students from ASD-N and First Nation Schools schools in Rexton, Blackville,
Tabusintac and points in between, were recognized for their perseverance in their
education. In the ceremony each student’s accomplishments were highlighted in a

The 31st Annual New
Brunswick Mathematics Competition for Grades 7, 8 and 9 took place on Friday,
May 10, 2013. ASD-N was well represented entering a total of 117 mathematicians
out of the 1243 students competing from across the province. Of all the New
Brunswick Grade 7 students Julia Bent of Harkins Middle School, Miramichi, placed
3rd in the province (and first in ASD-N. of course).

Green Elementary School grades 4 and 5 students are about to launch Defenders of Middle Island™, a video game
they have produced in collaboration with New Brunswick Community
College-Miramichi. The launch, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 12,
at 10:00 a.m. at the school, will be followed-up with the game being featured
on June 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Jalloo Festival of Animation
