Preparing for
physical activity is important! Did you know that it is important to
warm up your body before any physical activity? Warming up prepares your body
physically and mentally for exercising, and also helps prevent injuries. If you
are going for a run, you can warm up with some light jogging followed by some
stretching. So lace up your sneakers, “warm up”, get a friend and go for a run.

The Cool History
Kids, a group of Grade 4 and 5 students at Gretna Green Elementary School, have
recently completed a short film called "The Great Miramichi
Fire". The film is modelled on the popular Heritage Minutes, seen on television, and is intended
to teach about this tragic and significant event in Miramichi's history.
The film is part of an ongoing enrichment project at the school and was completed
with the help of ASD-N Technology Mentors Craig Duplessie and Mike McCallum. To view the film visit Our Miramichi Heritage .
A
splendid dinner at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel was enjoyed by twenty-six
area students at the Turnaround Achievement Awards ceremony on Monday May 27th.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Chatham with support from Beaubear Credit Union,
students from ASD-N and First Nation Schools schools in Rexton, Blackville,
Tabusintac and points in between, were recognized for their perseverance in their
education. In the ceremony each student’s accomplishments were highlighted in a
short video clip prior to their receiving a trophy and gift card. For details
The 31st Annual New
Brunswick Mathematics Competition for Grades 7, 8 and 9 took place on Friday,
May 10, 2013. ASD-N was well represented entering a total of 117 mathematicians
out of the 1243 students competing from across the province. Of all the New
Brunswick Grade 7 students Julia Bent of Harkins Middle School, Miramichi, placed
3rd in the province (and first in ASD-N. of course).
Placing first in Grade 8 in ASD-N was Vacili Osipeau of Superior

Green Elementary School grades 4 and 5 students are about to launch Defenders of Middle Island™, a video game
they have produced in collaboration with New Brunswick Community
College-Miramichi. The launch, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 12,
at 10:00 a.m. at the school, will be followed-up with the game being featured
on June 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Jalloo Festival of Animation
taking place at NBCC-Miramichi. At the launch on June 12, Ms Caroline Daley,

you? Did you know

of getting sick? You will also be
happier and healthier! Playing outside with your friends is a fun and easy way
to stay physically active. Running improves your heart, lungs, flexibility, and
gives you more energy! Running can also help you improve in other sports. Don’t forget to get at least 60 minutes of
physical activity each day! Lace up your
sneakers and get out there to accumulate Kilometers and “Go for 42.”
The wet weather over recent days didn’t dampen the spirits of many elementary school students in the Miramichi area. In fact, it could be said … it was, “like water off a duck’s back!”. With the support of Ducks Unlimited™ interpreters, Emily and Kristen, students got to hear about and explore the biodiversity of wetlands, the birds that might make wetlands their habitat, about the life on and below the water’s surface and about bird migration.
The Miramichi Fusion Festival, a family based community centered event, with free admission, will be held Saturday, June 8th at the Golden Hawk Centre, Miramichi East, beginning at 8:30 a.m. A wide variety of events is offered and the day promises to be a good deal of fun for the whole family. A class of grade eight Eleanor W. Graham Middle School students and two of their teachers recently completed a 16 hour Standard First Aid, CPR and AED course offered by the Saint John Ambulance Training program. The certificate, valid for 3 years, certifies them to offer emergency first aid, provide Cardio-pulminary Recuscitation (CPR) and use an AED ( Automated External Defibrillator) that can improve the survival of someone who has gone into cardiac arrest. Instruction was provided by a Certified Instructor for Anglophone North Schools, EWG Teacher, Mr. Paul Mourant.
Due to a lack of submissions, the Kin Film Fest which was to take place on Sunday May 26, 2013, has been postponed. We would like to thank all those who took the time to submit films but unfortunately we did not receive enough submissions to move forward with the event at this time. We are planning on rescheduling the Kin Film Fest later this year.
